Before I had even applied for college, I worked in food service, construction, and marketing. I should have known that my future would be full of many different jobs! I have a general background in marketing, community outreach and environmental issues. I have worked for non-profits (in community relations, membership, writing, editing, policy work and program management), worked at the city and state level as an urban planner, and wrote extensively on the intersection of climate change, transportation and land use. I run a small handmade jewelry business as well as create Tacoma-area handmade markets that highlight women artists and raise money for local non-profits. I have a BA in Political Science from UNC Chapel Hill and an MSc in City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics.
For the last few years I have focused my consulting work on teaching small business owners and marketing managers how to use free social media tools to reach customers and find a support network. I have a passion for helping women-owned and minority-owned businesses thrive. My workshops focus not just on the day to day aspects of running a business, but on how to create lasting connections within your community, to help your business be sustainable within a strong local economy. My philosophy has been honed over twenty years of working in communities, with communities, and for communities. If my business is succeeding, but I'm not doing good in the community, who can I turn to when my business hits a bump in the road?
How can I help you grow your business and do good?
